Quote of The Month: Instagram + Snapchat

So Instagram made Stories and I confess that’s all I have been doing the past few days while on holidays. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to temporarily share even more cute moments of my little girl or one of the few cocktails I managed to have while basking in the sunshine! We are all talking about the #InstaSnaps, including the main man himself, Kevin Systrom [CEO of Instagram]. Yep, this month’s quote had to come from Systrom after admitting to copying Snapchat’s Stories. Who admits copying someone else? No one ever but it’s not personal it’s just business. On borrowing Snapchat Stories, here is what Systrom had to say:

Since you can’t patent an idea it means every other idea invention is up for grabs but you just have to be able to deliver it better than the original inventor if you want to win the game and IMO this is what Instagram have done! Because the user interface, design and experience are so simple with Instagram Stories it means that if like me you are considered internet old (30+), you can easily find your way around this feature and enjoy sharing your moments.

The internet and social platforms are no strangers to borrowing from one another. Snapchat recently borrowed Memories from Facebook; Facebook borrowed Facebook Live videos from Twitter’s Periscope videos; Twitter invented the @ and #s and these have been widely adopted by every social platform. They are now the norm for social names and conversations.

In a much wider view, is this not the case with life in general? Life is full of imitations. Don’t worry I wont get into globalisation, music sampling, cultural appropriation and the likes 😎 🙈…
